Jacek (Hiacynt) Małachowski, of Nałęcz coat of arms (1737-1821)

Marshal of the coronation Seym in Warsaw 3I-20 XII 1764

Assistant Master of the Pantry of the Crown from 1764, Referendary of the Crown in 1764-1780, Vice-Chancellor from 1780 and Grand Chan- cellor of the Crown from 1786.

Initially in opposition to Russia, he stood up by the king after the outbreak of the Bar Confederation and neared the pro-Russian faction. As a member of the Permanent Council he strongly disapproved of some magnates taking possession of the property of the abrogated Jesuit Order, and postulated transferring the income from the operation for the National Education Commission, whose member he was till 1792. Averse to the reforms of the Great Seym and the Third May Constitution, in fear of a Russian intervention, he joined the Confederation of Targowica. During the Kościuszko Uprising he had to go into hiding. He aimed at the purge of Polish monetary system and promoted the development of industry. He built many factories in his estate, e.g. a faience factory at Ćmielów .
