From 1657 he was one of the chief leaders of the court camp - he spoke for vivente rege election and the programme of the Commonwealth improvement. He was among the authors of the Oliwa treaty (1660). He concluded the truce with Russia at Andruszow (1667) and was an advocate of Polish-Russian alliance against Turkey. In the 1669 election Seym he supported the candidacy of Michał Korybut Wiśniowiecki. In the 1674 convocation Seym he appeared as an opponent of Jan Sobieski. One of the most affluent magnates of the Commonwealth, the owner of the residences famous for their luxury. As King Jan Kazimierz commented on his palace at Jezna :'Pac is worth the palace as the palace is worth Pac'
