SCHETYNA GRZEGORZ b. 1963

Marshal of the Sejm of VI term

Grzegorz Schetyna was born on 18th February 1963 in Opole. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy and History of the University of Wrocław. In the years 1986-89, he presided over the University branch of the Independent Students. Association. During the martial law, he was a Fighting Solidarity activist. In 1990, he became the Director of the Office of the Voivode in Wrocław, and was a Deputy Voivode between 1991 and 1992. In 1991, he was appointed the Chair of the Liberal Democratic Congress in Wrocław; later, he became its Secretary General. In the years 1994 - 2001, he was a member of the Freedom Union and, for a short period, performed the duties of the party.s Secretary General.
He was a co founder of the Civic Platform. In the years 1994-1997, he was the chair of the Basketball Section of the Śląsk Wrocław sports club. He was among the creators of the "Eska" radio station in Wrocław. Between 2007 and 2009, he was a Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of the Interior and Administration in the Government of Donald Tusk.
Between October 2009 and July 2010, he presided over the Parliamentary Club of the Civic Platform.
On 8th July 2010, the Sejm appointed Grzegorz Schetyna as the Marshal of the Sejm of the 6th term. He remained in the office until the end of the term (07.11.2011).
After entering the Sejm as a result of the 2011 election, he was entrusted with the function of the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee. On 22.09.2014, he took the position of the Minister of Foreign affairs.
In the 2015 parliamentary election, he obtained the seat of a deputy again. On 16.11.2015 he ceased to hold the minister's office. On the same day, he took the position of the chairman of the Sejm's Foreign Affairs Committee.
He has been a deputy to the Polish Sejm since 1997
